Water & Wells
The water in Wickenburg and the surrounding towns is all ground water.  We are lucky to have a plentiful supply in most areas.

There is City water available in Wickenburg, Congress, Yarnell, Peepless valley, Circle city, and the in the old town area of Wittmann.  The city water in Wickenburg only covers part of the town, much of Wickenburg is serviced by residential wells.  Even if you are on City water, the water is still ultimately coming from a well, it is just a municipal well instead of a private well.

The Hassayampa River has a major influence on water around this area.  The river flows from the Mountains near Prescott, down through downtown Wickenburg, and then following hwy 60 through Morristown and south along the west boundary of Wittmann.

The Hassayampa River contributes water to the underground aquifers  as it works its way into the lower desert.  So the proximity to the river provides extra reassurance that our aquifers will not be depleted.

This ground water is most plentiful in the lower desert areas.  In the higher elevations ground water is not as reliable, specifically near Yarnell, where any ground water is likely to just pour out the side of Yarnell Hill.  In my opinion Wittmann is another area to be cautious about wells, just due the the sheer number of new homes coming in, combined with the proximity to the city.

Ground water levels in Arizona are carefully monitored by the Arizona Dept. of Water resources but unfortunately the state government can do very little to stop developers from  building even where there isn't a dependable supply of water.  The department of water resources has designated several areas around the state where ground water is being removed faster than it is replenished, those areas are called active Management areas.  The entire Valley that includes Phoenix is an active management area, the border of that area extends to just the other side of Morristown, and so Morristown and Wittmann are in the Active Management area.
